El Super Nintendo Entertainment System (abreviado oficialmente Super NES o SNES, y comúnmente abreviado a Super Nintendo es una consola de videojuegos de mesa de 16 bits desarrollada por Nintendo que fue lanzada en 1990 en Japón y Corea del Sur, 1991 en América del Norte, 1992 en Europa y Australasia (Oceanía) y 1993 en América del Sur. En Japón, el sistema se llama Super Famicom, o SFC para abreviar. En Corea del Sur, es conocido como el Super Comboy y fue distribuido por Hyundai Electronics. Aunque cada versión es esencialmente la misma, varias formas de bloqueo regional impiden que las diferentes versiones sean compatibles entre sí. Fue lanzado en Brasil el 2 de septiembre de 1992, por Playtronic.
La Super Nintendo fue un éxito mundial, convirtiéndose en la consola más vendida de la era de 16 bits a pesar de su inicio relativamente tardío y la feroz competencia que enfrentó en Norteamérica y Europa desde la consola Genesis / Mega Drive de Sega. El SNES siguió siendo popular en la era de 32 bits, y sigue siendo popular entre los aficionados, los coleccionistas, los jugadores retro, y los entusiastas de la emulación, algunos de los cuales todavía hacen homebrew ROM.
De los 783 lanzamientos oficiales de la consola, 249 eran exclusivos para Norteamérica y 62 para Europa. La Super NES fue lanzada en Norteamérica el 23 de agosto, 1991 con sus títulos del lanzamiento que eran Super Mario World, F-Zero, Pilotwings, SimCity, y Gradius III. El último juego que se publicará oficialmente para el sistema fue Frogger en 1998. El juego más vendido es Super Mario World con más de 20,6 millones de unidades vendidas.
